AtTheMatch and our contacts in the world of business and sport met up once again for our monthly networking event, held at the Nelson Bar in London, on Monday 22nd February.
In a packed house, with over 70 in attendance, guest speaker for the evening was former professional footballer turned media pundit Jason Roberts whose Jason Roberts Foundation was the event sponsor.
The captivated audience enjoyed an inspiring, humorous and honest discussion from the former Wigan Athletic, Blackburn Rovers and Reading frontman with AtTheMatch founder Simon Maurer.
Jason spoke about his journey from playing in non-league with Hayes, to becoming a professional footballer, setting up his foundation as well as his expert opinion on topics currently in the news including Leicester City’s title charge.
Before and after the Q&A, individuals and organisations from the sport, law, recruitment, media, wealth management, insurance, travel and charity industries networked over complimentary food and drink, swapping business cards and creating synergy.
Jason Roberts MBE, Trustee and Founder of the Jason Roberts Foundation, said:
"I want to thank AtTheMatch for putting this event on but more importantly I want to thank AtTheMatch and Simon for being so good to the Jason Roberts Foundation and helping us to where we are today for the work that you’re doing."
AtTheMatch founder Simon Maurer said:
“The best yet is the only way to describe our February Networking Event. There was so much enthusiasm in the room from important people and key decision-makers in a variety of industries.
“Jason captivated the audience from the word go sharing honest, funny and important stories of his life and career, whilst reminding us all of the excellent work being done by his foundation. As ever, with a jam-packed room, the Nelson Bar were great hosts.”
Our second networking event of the year continued on from our successful 2016 opener in January.
On that night, AtTheMatch Member Ronald Fletcher Baker were the sponsors, with sports lawyer and former professional footballer David Winnie as guest speaker, who delivered an incredible insight into contract negotiations at the highest level along with his own personal career.
Be sure to check out our next AtTheMatch Networking Event in March, where we continue our sports foundation theme with guest speaker Tobi Alabi, whose football career was cut short following a cardiac arrest on the pitch.
Since then, he has founded the Heart4More Foundation, who the night will be in support of with an upcoming fundraising dinner on May 1st.
